Pierre joined Hawkins Wright in 2014 and has been providing research and editorial support to the Pulp & Paper team. He is co-author of our monthly multi-client publication Pulpwatch, and also makes regular contributions to The Outlook for Market Pulp and Forest Energy Monitor reports. A newcomer to the sector, Pierre was previously employed as an analyst at Société Générale in Paris where he tracked the performance of structured products and undertook risk analyses.

He has worked in projects led by development organizations such as WCS and Pact, as well as forest certification system such as FSC. Mauro has been working since January 2018 at WWF as Senior Advisor for Pulp, Paper and Packaging, engaging companies in the sector to increase transparency and environmental performance. Mauro holds a master’s degree in environmental science, policy and management from the MESPOM consortium (Central European University, Lund University, and the University of Manchester).
Marco Eikelenboom is Chief Executive Officer at Sappi Europe since April 2021. His professional career started in 1992 with KNP Fine Paper in The Netherlands and after several commercial positions in Maastricht and Paris, he was appointed Manager Corporate Planning when KNP Leykam was acquired by Sappi Ltd. in 1997. Following this corporate strategy position, Marco took on the role as Managing Director of Sappi Benelux and left in 2002 to Sappi’s global Head Office in Johannesburg to become Marketing Director. Marco came back to Brussels as Director Marketing & Sales in 2005 and after the acquisition and integration of M-Real Graphics In 2008, he assumed the global Marketing & Sales responsibilities for the Graphics business of Sappi Europe as Vice-President Marketing & Sales. Marco holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from the Erasmus University Rotterdam and followed executive management courses at INSEAD, IMD and MIT Sloane School of Management. Mark Harrison joined IPC in 2002 and is the Head of Markets. Mark’s team is responsible for conducting research and analysis on market needs for cross-border e-commerce and for translating these into postal service specifications to provide online retailers and SMEs the possibility to expand their business to global customers. Mark works regularly with senior executives from global platforms including Alibaba, Amazon, eBay, Google and Rakuten, as well as with academics and consultants specialising in the global supply chain. In 2009 Mark was responsible for launching the IPC Environmental Measurement and Monitoring System which measures participant's carbon management proficiency, carbon performance indicators and emissions. Mark also established the annual IPC Cross-Border E-Commerce Shopper Survey and in 2018 over 33,500 consumers across 41 countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North & South America were researched to determine their preferences and experiences in order to help postal operators improve their delivery performance.
Prior to IPC, Mark worked for Royal Mail for 14 years in both the International and Electronic Service business units where he undertook a variety of marketing and operational roles. Hélène Soyer Nogueira has been working for V.E, a Moody’s affiliate, for 10 years, having joined as an ESG analyst in the Basic Resources cluster, working on Chemicals, Mining & Metals and Forest Products & Paper industries. She was then made responsible for V.E Environmental thematic group, and since January 2020 became Research Manager for the Basic Resources sectors. Before joining V.E, Hélène worked on environmental projects sponsored by the European Commission. Of French origin, she came to Belgium to do an internship at the European Commission, in the Unit “”Forest Based Industries” of DG GROW (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs).
Peter began his career in 1986 as MD of a small publishing and printing company (WUV-Universitätsverlag), trainee of Deutsche Bank and head of procurement and logistics of the automotive company KTM. He joined Mondi Group in 1992.
After heading the bag and flexibles business from 1995 to 2001, overseeing its recovery and expansion, Peter was appointed chief executive of Mondi Packaging Europe in UK in 2002, leading its subsequent integration with Frantschach into the new global Mondi packaging division in 2004. In 2008 Peter joined the Mondi Boards as chief executive officer of the Group’s Europe & International Division comprising all business outside South Africa.

Pieter is the architect and manager of IPC’s Environmental Measurement and Monitoring System (EMMS), the framework structure that is behind the global postal industry’s common emissions-reduction programme and allows for 19 postal operators across the globe to contribute to lowering the industry’s carbon footprint through a common, standardised reporting, published each year on the IPC website. In 2018, after reaching all targets set for 2020, the EMMS programme was broadened and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) and was renamed as the Sustainability Measurement and Management System (SMMS). The SMMS programme focusses on 5 SDG’s (8, 9, 11, 12 and 13) which are considered the most material SDG’s for the postal sector.
Pieter is responsible for collecting, analysing, auditing and publishing data and contributes to the strategic communications for the global programme.
On special assignment from the then TNT (now PostNL) in the Netherlands, Pieter joined IPC in March 2008. He began his career at TNT Mail in 1996 in the Registered Mail Sorting Centre, as a process-team manager and later on as an IT project manager. Sappi, a leading global provider of sustainable woodfibre products and solutions, appointed Berry Wiersum as Chief Executive Officer of Sappi Europe S.A. on 15 January 2007. Berry retired as CEO in March 2021 and is currently Head of Regulatory Affairs for Sappi Europe.
Mr Wiersum started his career at ICI Fibres, held the position of President of Amoco Fabrics (Europe) followed by President of Amoco Chemicals (Europe). Following the takeover by BP, he joined BP to assist with the integration of the two groups in Europe. He then joined Pechiney SA in France and ran the CEBAL packaging division until he was recruited as Managing Director of the Packaging Division of Kappa Packaging BV (The Netherlands) and member of the Management Board responsible for paper manufacture and packaging in the Kappa group. Mr Wiersum was Chairman of CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries) from 2009 – 2011. In 2017 he was named RISI's European CEO of the year and International CEO of the year at the PPI awards.

Hans Wortman is the Head of Paper for Recycling sourcing at Westfälische Papierfabrik (WEPA), which he joined in 2019 after coming out of retirement in 2017. He is also Chair of the 4evergreen Alliance and the Chair of the Cepi Recycling Committee. Hans has over 30 years of experience in the paper industry, specialising in the sourcing of paper for recycling. Prior to joining WEPA, Hans held various management positions at Reed, Reedpack, SCA, DSSmith and SCA Hygiene which is the actual sequence of the companies within the paper industry he worked for since April 1987.
